Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Then, in 1992 she was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist as well as presenter of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the debate in 1988 among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell covered a wide range of notable stories, including the Iran Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled together with Ronald Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss issues like and the Iran Contra controversy.
